1)Vicwood started in 1960 s and has remained a privately owned company. In 1970 s, it set up two plywood mills in the Philippines, which was the largest production capacity in the World at that time with 22 peeling lines. The production rate was 3 pieces of plywood per second. When China opened its door to foreign investments in the 1980 s, Vicwood was the first company to set up a plywood mill in China and obtained a business licence with the number one. It was a joint venture with the local government. In the 1990 s, Vicwood set up the present wood processing complex in Suzhou. It is a 100% private company. Vicwood started research of engineered wood in the Philippines. The technology was brought to China when it set up the present mill in Suzhou. 2) From its Suzhou factory, Vicwood supplies the following products to the international market: - rotary cut veneer - natural wood and engineered wood sliced veneer - ordinary plywood and fancy plywood - natural wood and engineered wood lumber - supplementary products such as inlay, edge banding, moulding, etc. to complement the veneer which are supplied 3) Vicwood also diversifies into real estate development in Hong Kong, China and North America. However, wood remains the core business of the company. To supply to its wood processing mills, Vicwood acquired forest concessions in the Philippines in the 1970 s and in Indonesia in 1980 s. In 1980 s, Vicwood started to acquire forest concessions in Africa. Now it owns 3 million hectares of forest concessions and operates 8 sawmills in 5 countries in Africa: Gabon, Ivory Coast, Central Africa, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. It used to operate in Takoradi, Ghana, too. |
